The Real Princess

George MacDonald has so far done a fantastic job of portraying Princess Irene as a real human being. She is a princess, which usually comes with being pretty and well-mannered, as she is, but she is also just a little girl. She wasn’t supposed to run up the stairs, but she did. She has normal thoughts and feelings and lets Lootie know when she is upset. She likes to be outside in nature enjoying the sunshine and everything else good that comes with it. She likes Curdie because he is a nice boy and helps the princess and Lootie get back to the house safely. Princess Irene also shows that she is a real person when she doesn’t have her handkerchief with her at all times.
