Women in Sing-Song

I have a hard time believing that the verses that are said to show women’s weakness are as bad as said. I also think that I am very old fashioned. When I first read the one that starts: “If I were a Queen, What would I do?” I thought it was very cute, not domineering. My wish is to marry a man and serve him. I will not be controlled by him because he will treat me like a queen: like I am a rare jewel that is to be loved and respected. I will treat him like a king: like a rare jewel that is to be loved and respected. I see nothing at all wrong with Minnie in “Minnie bakes oaten cakes, Minnie brews ale…” Isn’t a wife supposed to love her husband? Isn’t she supposed to anxiously await his return from a long time away from home? I know that if my husband was gone to sea for a long time I would be ecstatic to see him and I would be making every kind of food that he likes to eat!
